Frequently Asked Questions

Planning a safari often comes with questions. Here are a few questions I’m asked most often.

How much does an African safari cost?

This is almost always the first question travelers have, even if they don’t say it out loud.

Safari pricing varies depending on the destination, season, and style of accommodation. As a general guide, most luxury safaris range from $9,000–$19,000+ per person for a 7–10-day journey, excluding international flights.

Because every itinerary I design is custom, pricing can vary widely. During our initial conversation, I’ll walk you through what’s possible within your preferred budget and recommend options that deliver the best experience and value.

Is Africa safe for travelers?

Yes. The destinations I recommend are well-established for tourism and operate with very high standards of safety and hospitality.

Throughout your journey you’ll be hosted by experienced guides and trusted local teams who handle all logistics—from airport arrivals to transfers and activities. I carefully select partners known for their professionalism and service, so you can travel with confidence and focus on enjoying the experience.

What is the best time of year to go on safari?

Africa offers incredible wildlife experiences year-round, but the best timing depends on what you want to see and where you want to go.

For example, many travelers plan around seasonal highlights like the Great Migration in Tanzania and Kenya, while others prefer quieter seasons with fewer visitors and excellent wildlife viewing.

During the planning process, I help you choose the destinations and timing that best match your interests, travel dates, and the type of experience you’re looking for.

What makes a safari different from a typical vacation?

A safari isn’t just about where you stay, it’s about the entire experience. The quality of guiding, the location of the camp within a reserve, the timing of wildlife movement, and how different regions are combined all play a major role in what you’ll see and how the journey feels.

Many of the camps I recommend are small, remote, and intentionally intimate, often hosting only a handful of guests at a time. This allows for exceptional guiding, meaningful wildlife encounters, and a level of service that’s difficult to replicate in larger properties.

Designing the right safari means carefully balancing location, season, accommodations, and logistics so that everything works together seamlessly. My role is to curate those elements into a journey that reflects your interests and travel style, creating an experience that is both effortless and unforgettable.

How does the planning process work?

Every journey begins with a conversation.

We start with a short call to learn about your travel style, interests, and what you want this trip to feel like. From there, I design a custom itinerary using carefully selected camps, lodges, and experiences.

Once we refine the details together and you’re happy with the plan, a deposit secures your trip and I coordinate all of the logistics—from transfers and internal flights to special experiences—so everything runs seamlessly.

Why should I work with a safari specialist instead of booking the trip myself?

Planning a safari is very different from booking a typical vacation. The quality of the experience often comes down to details that aren’t obvious online—such as choosing the right location within a reserve, the quality of guiding, seasonal wildlife movement, and how different camps work together within an itinerary.
work together within an itinerary.

As a safari specialist, my role is to design a journey that fits you personally. I carefully select camps, lodges, and experiences based on firsthand knowledge and trusted relationships on the ground. I also coordinate all the moving parts—transfers, regional flights, park logistics, and timing between locations—so everything flows seamlessly.

For many travelers, the biggest advantage is simply having an expert guide them through the process. Instead of spending hours researching and second-guessing decisions, you have a dedicated advisor who ensures the trip is thoughtfully designed from the start.

How far in advance should I plan my trip?

Ideally 9–12 months in advance, especially for peak travel seasons or popular wildlife events like the Great Migration.

Many of the camps and lodges I recommend are small and fill quickly. Planning early ensures access to the best locations and experiences.

That said, if you have flexibility, I can sometimes arrange exceptional trips on shorter timelines.

Do you plan group or family travel?

Yes. Many of the trips I design are for families, milestone celebrations, and small private groups.

Whether it’s a multi-generational safari, a honeymoon, or a special celebration with friends, I’ll design a journey that balances shared experiences with the right level of comfort and privacy.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended for every trip.

Safari travel often involves remote locations, flights, and significant trip investments. Travel insurance protects you in case of trip interruptions, medical situations, or unexpected cancellations.

At a minimum, travelers should carry medical evacuation coverage. I’m happy to recommen trusted insurance providers and help you choose the right policy.
